New Suede Skirt

This summer I am working on several new leather garments to help promote my new Sewing Leather CD this fall. Here is a great suede skirt made from one skin using Simplicity 9825. I omitted the CF seam and put an invisible zipper in the back. The yoke makes good use of the skin. The skin was purchased with the tie dye print. The top is Vogue 2814, an Issey Miyake, pattern. It is made from a lightweight wool jersey. I washed the jersey first on a delicate cycle in cold water. It felted just slightly. The neck and hem edges are raw and top stitched.

where do you get leather skins like that, I have only seen plain or croc printed. I have just got your CD and really looking forward to reading it

Great outfit, Kathryn. I wouldn't have known the skirt was a skin if you hadn't mentioned it. The Miyake style tee is inspiring as well.

I found this skin at Moore Pearsall, which is one of the suppliers listed on my CD. Occasionally they receive sample skins from tanneries, which they sell. This was one of those skins. I fell in love with it when I saw it. I had to do a bit of finagling to get the skirt out of one skin. There weren't many scraps left!

Kathryn,

I looked at this pattern and immediately thought it would only look good on someone as tall as you. In your comments I would really appreciate it if you could mention body type the pattern might be suited for. Many thanks.

I think the important thing with this skirt is getting the length right. It is a basic A line skirt, which most people can wear. If you are shorter keep the length long enough that it doesn't look square. The suede has a nice drape to it so it will fall softly. An attractive length on most people is just below the knee and above the calf at the thinner part of the leg.
I think the top would suit a lot of different figures as long as you use the right fabric. Choose something soft and fairly lightweight that will drape nicely. On a larger figure the soft folds will be flattering.

Kathryn,
Lovely as usual!
You keep making some of my favorite, not yet tried, patterns too! I have that Issey miyake and I've looked at the pattern many times... now I've inspiration to actually make it.

I love what you've done with the top and would like to try it, but when I looked on Vogue's web site, I could not find this pattern. Do you know if it's out of print?

Yes, unfortunately the Issey Miyake pattern has been discontinued. His patterns are always collector's items. I noticed that there are a few available on ebay but they are quite expensive.
